![]() The federal tax break went into effect following the recent changes made by the American Rescue Plan. The Internal Revenue Service will begin refunding money to people in May who already filed their returns without claiming the new tax break on unemployment benefits, the agency said Wednesday. We’re thinking of seeing a tax preparer on Monday as we’re lost on of we should file an amended return or just wait (even longer) to see if IRS fixes this on their end.įinal note: we originally filed Feb 17th.Watch Video: 2020 taxes: Do you owe taxes on stimulus checks or unemployment? Nothing about any amount of the $10200 each (we both made more than that in unemployment but were under the $150k filing joint) was listed anywhere. We looked over our transactions section of our 2020 returns and found nothing but the stimmies applied. ![]() We went ahead and paid the amount as penalties were starting to accrue. We just got a bill for amount owed that was the same owed before the law was passed. We paid state but held off paying federal as IRS said they were taking care of the $10200 on back end. We live in Indiana that didn’t apply the $10200 for my wife and I who each got PUA (me more than her). I have been looking all over this sub for a situation like ours but can’t find it so: Q: MY state said they are not doing the 10200 refund what do i do?!?!Ī: This means your state refund or amount owed wont change, but federal taxes still have the deduction regardless of what your state is doing (fuck the ones that are not doing it, sorry fam) ![]() ![]() Make sure to check!!!!Ī: Earned income tax credit (helps us poors a bit) ALSO, some states require you to file an amended return for them as well. Q: Do I need to file an amended return for federal refund?Ī: NO not for federal, IRS stated refunds will be automatic BUT if you qualify for new tax credits (EITC or others) You need to file an amended return to get that refund. (still take any of this with a grain of salt, contact a tax professional with any questions you have) The transcript will have transaction codes. (potentially a state refund not federal so take this with a grain of salt) Update 1: There have been unconfirmed reports of people receiving their refund filing simple returns no dependents. READ ME: THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR THOSE WAITING FOR STIMMY CHECKS OR THEIR FIRST REFUNDS! ONLY THOSE WHO ARE AWAITING A SECONDARY REFUND DUE TO THE 10200 UNEMPLOYMENT TAX BREAK. I want this post to be for those early tax bois and gals who received their refund back in march or earlier and are awaiting a secondary refund due to the 10200 unemployment tax break. I see a lot of posts about the unemployment 10200 tax break but people are posting who haven't received their original refund yet.
